URBANET Interviews Dr. Ebru Gencer on Inclusive Cities

CUDRR+R’s Executive Director Dr. Ebru Gencer spoke with URBANET on inclusive cities, public spaces and the importance of community participation in disaster risk reduction.

“Community participation in planning is really important to increase safety in informal settlements for all types of hazards, whether it is a man-made hazard such as crime, robbery, or sexual violence, or whether it is a natural hazard,” she said. “The local governments need to give the public the opportunity to understand these issues, and involve them in the planning process and in the management of the areas they live in.”

CUDRR+R and Partners Hold Workshop in Dosquebradas, Colombia

CUDRR+R, along with partner organizations IIED-Latin America and Alterra, recently completed a workshop focusing on adapting to climate change and promoting inclusive urban development in Dosquebradas, Colombia. On March 15-16th, 2017, CUDRR+R Executive Director Ebru Gencer joined partner organizations as well as participating representatives from the Technical University of Pereira and the Autonomous Regional Corporation of Risaralda (CARDER) to discuss the unique challenges to climate adaptation as well as assets within the community.
